Janet Finch-Saunders marks #Februdairy 2021
In marking the beginning of #Februdairy 2021, Janet Finch-Saunders – the Welsh Conservative Prospective Welsh Parliament Member for Aberconwy – has urged residents across the constituency to buy local and use the celebratory month to sample some unique regional Welsh delicacies:
“It has been a tremendously difficult twelve months for our dairy farmers, with the unprecedented pressures of the pandemic and the number of producers in Wales continuing its downward decline. In fact, according to recent statistics released by the Food Standard Agency, our home region of North Wales has seen the loss of 10 suppliers between April 2019 and 2020.
“The #Februdairy campaign is a fantastic initiative which crucially backs our rural communities. The role of Welsh dairy farms as contractors and rural job providers is too important to ignore. After their hard work to keep us fed throughout the pandemic, it is only right that we begin to give back.
“Encouraging more people to buy dairy produce can also have a positive impact on our collective health and well-being. This is due to the presence of crucial nutrients such as calcium, potassium, and vitamin D. It is why, as part of my pledge to support local producers, I am encouraging everyone to get involved and sample some of our local dairy delicacies!
“Here in our constituency of Aberconwy, we are blessed to have access to some truly delicious and fine local dairy produce, including Llaeth y Llan yogurts and cheeses from South Caernarfon Creameries and the Snowdonia Cheese Company. So I encourage you all to make a special effort to try these delicious foods, and support the industry this month.”
