Janet Finch-Saunders on positive plan to empower rural custodians

Speaking ahead of the CLA Senedd Hustings to be held tonight, the Welsh Conservative candidate for Aberconwy and rural affairs spokesperson - Janet Finch-Saunders - has made clear her positive forward plan to empower rural communities.

Among other features, Mrs Finch-Saunders would implement a five-point plan to champion Welsh food production and scrap the Wales-wide NVZ. Tonight's hustings are an important event in the election calendar, as devolution means that the Welsh Government is responsible for most policy areas that affect our rural communities. Commenting on the choice in May, Janet said:

"The Welsh Government have forgotten the core importance of the sustainability of actual farms. Out of touch with our rural communities, their agricultural white paper simply failed to champion food production and £53 million under the RDP was awarded without ensuring value for money. "We should also not forget the anguish caused by their imposition of an unnecessary and blanket NVZ. This policy discriminates against farmers in areas which have recorded zero incidents in the last decade and there is a very real risk that some farmers will go out of business. "My promise to farmers is clear: I would work with the sector to introducing a post-Brexit policy which places food security and food production at the heart of Welsh Government decision-making. This should, in turn, have positive impact for our environment, further incentivising sustainability. "That is the proposition that I will be putting forward at the CLA Hustings tonight - a positive vision that empowers our land custodians, as Wales looks to take its place as a world leader in sustainability and animal welfare."
